Former Swansea boss Michael Laudrup has revealed that the Welsh sides lack of identity on the pitch is part of the reason that the Swans currently find themselves bottom of the Premier League. 

Laudrup, who led Swansea to their first piece of major silverware with their 2013 League Cup victory is currently the head coach at Qatar Stars League side Al Rayyan, spoke exclusively to beIN SPORTS and gave his view on the current situation at the Liberty Stadium. 

“It’s really hurting me to see that Swansea in the last couple of years have changed completely the way that they play.” Under Laudrup, the Swans implemented a similar brand of possession-based football which had been played under previous managers and the former Danish international acknowledged that the change of style has affected the side. 

“What they (Swansea) did with Roberto Martinez, Brendan Rodgers also when I was there that has changed.”

Current Swansea manager Paul Clement is facing increased pressure on his job, following Swansea’s 3-1 away defeat to Everton leaving the side bottom of the table, having only registered one win in their last ten Premier League games. Laudrup also added that the lack of playing identity at the club has effect results for the team. 

“(Swansea) don’t have the possession of the game, so they have changed their style and this is difficult when you change your style.”

“So now (Swansea) are not a team who wants the ball, it’s not a physical team who can play defensively for 90 minutes. They are in between, and that is tough to watch” added the Danish coach. 

The Swans are set to take on fellow strugglers Crystal Palace at home on Saturday, and yet another negative result could see the Welsh side marooned further at the bottom of the Premier League.
