Manchester United midfielder Carrick to retire
Manchester United veteran Michael Carrick will hang up his boots at the end of the 2017-18 season
Michael Carrick will call time on his professional career at the end of this season, the Manchester United and England midfielder has confirmed.
"There comes a time when your body tells you it is time to stop. That is where I am at," added Carrick in a statement. The veteran midfielder has played 463 times for United since joining from Tottenham in 2006. During his 12 years at the Red Devils Carrick has won 12 major titles. So far this season the midfielder has been restricted to just four appearances because of an irregular heart rhythm.
Carrick also added that it is "looking likely" that he will take up United's offer of a coaching role with the side at the end of the season.
