Shiffrin avenges Zagreb blip to continue slalom dominance
A year ago it was pain in Zagreb in the slalom for Mikaela Shiffrin, but her dominance of the discipline continued in Croatia this time.
Mikaela Shiffrin racked up a third consecutive slalom victory in the FIS World Cup by making amends for her Zagreb disappointment 12 months ago.
The American made it 23 podiums in her past 24 World Cup slalom races, the only exception in that run coming in Croatia in January 2017 when she recorded a did not finish.
But it was business as usual on this occasion, as Shiffrin - who was leading after the first run - clocked a combined time of one minute and 53.07 seconds.
It marks Shiffrin's third career slalom victory in Zagreb, while her season tally in the discipline now sits at 580 and her lead in the overall standings is a hefty 571 points.
Switzerland's Wendy Holdener finished 1.59 seconds adrift to chalk up a 13th career podium in the slalom, while Frida Hansdotter was third ahead of Petra Vlhova in fourth.
