Russia thrashed Latvia 5-0 at the IIHF World Championship and will face the United States for top spot in Group A.
Fierce rivals Russia and the United States will go head-to-head on Tuesday to determine first place in Group A after the former thrashed Latvia 5-0 at the IIHF World Championship.
Goals from Ivan Telegin, Bogdan Kiselevich, Anton Belov, Nikita Kucherov and Vladislav Namestnikov wrapped up a comfortable victory for Russia, who have won six out of six so far.
Their final match of the group will decide who goes into the quarter-finals as top seeds, the Russians currently holding a two-point advantage over USA.
Meanwhile, Latvia's next clash with Germany will decide who takes the final quarter-final berth.
Group A's other match on Monday saw Denmark beat Italy 2-0, the Danes leaving it late to inflict further misery on the winless Italians.
There were a number of fond farewells in Group B as eliminated France saw Cristobal Huet and Laurent Meunier play their final games.
The duo helped France to a 4-1 win over Slovenia to restore some pride after only winning three of their previous pool matches.
Canada are top of the group with one match to play, their 5-0 thrashing of Norway - who are knocked out as a result - moving them three points clear of the Czech Republic.
