Leeds Rhinos' trio of departing legends were given the perfect send-off as Brian McDermott's men defeated Wigan Warriors 22-20 to win the Super League Grand Final and complete a magnificent domestic treble.

The build-up to Saturday's season-ending showpiece, which took place in front of a record crowd of 73,512 at Old Trafford, had been dominated by the impending departures of Jamie Peacock, Kevin Sinfield and Kylie Leuluai.

And two first-half tries from another stalwart, scrum-half Danny McGuire, helped the three icons to bow out on a high, although the Rhinos were forced to survive a huge scare as Wigan came from 16-6 down to lead inside the final quarter.

One of Leeds' young stars, Josh Walters, ultimately provided the decisive score - denying the impressive Matty Bowen his own fairytale finale and ensuring the winners of the League Leaders' Shield and Challenge Cup beat Wigan in a major final for the first time.

Former Bradford Bulls forward Peacock ends his playing career having set new benchmarks with an 11th Grand Final appearance and ninth victory, while Wigan must reflect on the pain of a second successive defeat at Old Trafford.

The NRL-bound Joe Burgess provided the game's first try - as he had against St Helens 12 months earlier - after Matty Smith's pass had put Liam Farrell through a gaping hole in the Leeds defence.

Yet Smith dropped the restart and Leeds found an immediate response as man of the match McGuire collected a delicate kick from Sinfield to touch down, both scores being converted to make it 6-6 after eight minutes.

Leeds staved off a spell of Wigan pressure midway through the opening half and were rewarded when a repeat set ended with Man of Steel Zak Hardaker pouncing on a loose ball - amid suggestions of a possible knock-on from McGuire - before flicking a pass infield for Joel Moon to cross, with the video referee confirming the try.

There was no doubt about the next score, as McGuire floated a delightful pass out to Tom Briscoe and then came up in support of Kallum Watkins's speedy breakaway to round off a superb Rhinos move, Sinfield's kick stretching the lead.

Yet Wigan piled on the pressure at the start of the second half and got back to within four points through a converted score from Dom Manfredi, who stole the ball from Ryan Hall after the Leeds winger looked to have dealt with a Sean O'Loughlin kick.

The Warriors then spectacularly hit the front in the 50th minute when Bowen - in his final match before retirement - evaded five tacklers to touch down under the posts, before adding his third goal.

A Bowen penalty made it 20-16 inside the final quarter, but Leeds had the final say when another high kick caused chaos and Walters went over, giving Sinfield the opportunity to kick a fittingly decisive conversion.
