Malherbe to face no action over bite claims
World Rugby is satisfied South Africa prop Frans Malherbe did not bite United States lock Matt Trouville in their Rugby World Cup game.
South Africa's Frans Malherbe will face no action from World Rugby after the sport's governing body found no evidence of him biting Matt Trouville of the United States during Wednesday's Rugby World Cup clash.
A newspaper claimed that Springboks prop Malherbe had been pictured biting Trouville during South Africa's 64-0 Pool B win over the USA at London's Olympic Stadium.
However, the allegations have been dismissed by World Rugby after a review of the video footage.
A World Rugby statement read: "Independent Citing Commissioner Peter Larter [England] is satisfied that no biting incident occurred during the Rugby World Cup 2015 Pool B match between South Africa and USA on 7 October.
"Larter's determination follows a detailed review of all video footage, an absence of a team referral and proactive dismissal by the USA team of claims made via social media that a South Africa player bit a USA player during the match.
"This matter highlights the need to exercise caution in respect of claims based on two-dimensional still images."
