Froome to keep fighting as Vuelta nears conclusion
The battle for Vuelta a Espana glory is set to be decided on Saturday and Chris Froome has given himself a chance of beating Nairo Quintana.
Chris Froome is aware he still has a major challenge on his hands to overhaul Nairo Quintana in the Vuelta a Espana, but has vowed to "keep fighting" after applying significant pressure to the Colombian with a resounding time-trial victory on Friday.
Froome, seeking to become only the third man to win the Tour de France and Vuelta in the same year, cut Quintana's lead in the general classification by more than two minutes as he triumphed on stage 19 in emphatic fashion.
The British Team Sky rider still has one minute and 21 seconds to make up on Movistar's Quintana ahead of Saturday's penultimate mountainous stage, which is followed by a chiefly ceremonial journey to Madrid.
"I don't think there's much more I could have done today. I left it all out on the road," said Froome after Friday's impressive performance.
"It's my last race of the year and I'm happy to still be in good condition.
"There's still one more really tough day of racing. Let's see. Of course Quintana still has more than one minute of an advantage. We're going to keep fighting all the way.
"We'll see [what happens] tomorrow and I'll speak with my team-mates tonight.
"Quintana with Movistar has a really good team around him and it's going to be difficult to beat him."
The decisive stage of this year's Vuelta will see competitors complete a 184km route from Benidorm to Alto de Aitana, with the final ascent a gruelling special category climb.
