Cubs blank Pirates, win NL wildcard play-off
The Chicago Cubs ended their play-off drought as they set up a National League Division Series with the St Louis Cardinals.
The Chicago Cubs shutout the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-0 in their MLB National League (NL) wildcard game on Wednesday.
Pitcher Jake Arrieta and rookie Kyle Schwarber starred for the Cubs, who won their first play-off game since 2003.
Arrieta produced a four-hit shutout, while Schwarber had three RBIs as the Cubs - seeking to end a 107-year wait for a World Series championship - set up a NL Division Series against arch-rivals the St Louis Cardinals.
The Cubs, who will lock horns with the Cardinals starting on Friday, have not won the World Series since 1907.
