Bolt's dad does not want him to retire
Eight Olympic golds and 11 world titles are not enough for Usain Bolt's dad, who does not want the sprinter to retire.
Usain Bolt has revealed his father wants him to continue racing beyond the IAAF World Championships.
The iconic sprinter is taking part in his final competition at London Stadium, following which he will bring one of the greatest careers in sporting history to a close.
Bolt commenced his campaign with a frustrating performance in the 100 metres heats, stumbling out of the blocks before recovering to finish first and advance to the semi-finals.
The Jamaican has won eight Olympic gold medals and 11 world titles, and his father would like to see him claim even more.
"My dad wants me to go on but I am happy to retire after the championships," Bolt said.
"I've done a lot through my career and I'm very happy with what I've done, I just need to get through this and the four-by-ones and I'll be happy."
After gaining three places in the second half of the race with a typically strong finish, Bolt tried to look to the positives.
"I had to work hard but I'm actually glad I had to push myself more to blow the cobwebs away. I'm feeling okay but it wasn't a great race.
"I didn't run as smooth as I'd like to but the way I got back into the race shows I am in decent form. After the semi-finals I can say what is what.
"I had to push myself a little bit and get my legs going, so that's good.
"I have to get my start together. I can't keep doing this because if I do this in the final it will be over. I have to get my improvement going.
"I wasn't happy but I got it done and that's the key thing."
