The 2020 Olympic Games golf competition will be moved from the Kasumigaseki Country Club if it does not allow women members, says IOC vice-president John Coates.

After making its debut at Rio 2016, golf will continue its Olympic journey in four years' time with the course in Saitama set to host.

But it has a policy of not allowing women to become full members or play on Sundays, which Coates cited as a stumbling block.

"Our principles are based on non-discrimination, that's the position we've made quite clear," said Coates.

"There has been progress. As recently as this week there have been more discussions with the club [to suggest] it's heading in the right direction for them to have a non-discriminatory membership procedure.

"It would appear that we should be able to have this resolved by the end of June."

South Korea's Park Inbee took gold for South Korea in Brazil, while Justin Rose was the men's winner to add to Great Britain's medal tally.
