'We are the Monstars' - LaVine compares Timberwolves to Space Jam villains
The Minnesota Timberwolves have the athletic ability of Space Jam's Monstars, according to Zach LaVine.
He may have won the 2015 NBA Slam Dunk Contest sporting a 'Jordan 23' Tune Squad jersey, but Zach LaVine has compared the Minnesota Timberwolves to Space Jam villains the Monstars.
Timberwolves guard LaVine is a huge fan of the 1996 cult classic starring Michael Jordan, Bugs Bunny and a host of other Looney Tunes characters, once claiming his love of basketball "started with Space Jam".
In the movie, the Tune Squad, led by Jordan, take on a villainous outfit of alien beings calling themselves the Monstars, who steal the talent of NBA players such as Charles Barkley and Patrick Ewing.
Trailing 66-18 at half-time, the animated heroes battle back from the jaws of defeat to snatch victory after consuming a half-time bottle of 'Michael's Secret Stuff'.
The Timberwolves are struggling at the bottom end of the Western Conference this season, but LaVine insists they have the fitness levels to match the Monstars.
"We pretty much are the Monstars with how athletic we are," he told Rolling Stone.
"They might be a little bit more aggressive than us, a little bit stronger.
"A couple of them dudes look like DeAndre Jordan size. And that's the whole starting five.
"Give us a little bit of that Secret Stuff and we'll be alright."
Asked which NBA star's talent he would like to steal, LaVine added: "I'm thinking about for me, man, I would love to have... man, I'd love to have LeBron James' body. He has the most athletic body anybody's ever seen.
"Or if you don't have that, I'd take Michael Jordan's competitiveness or mentality. Kobe's competitiveness. Their will to win. You can't get much better than that and I'd be well set."
Amid reports of a sequel, LaVine is keen on starring in the revival.
"I'll get that Bill Murray role!" he added.
