The Golden State Warriors and the San Antonio Spurs both recorded wins as the NBA mourned the passing of an icon.

Long-time and popular NBA reporter Craig Sager lost his battle with cancer aged 65 on Thursday, leading to widespread tributes.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr and Spurs boss Gregg Popovich both mourned the loss of Sager pre-game and it was fitting that both teams won, with Golden State defeating the New York Knicks 103-90, while San Antonio trumped the Phoenix Suns 107-92.

The Portland Trail Blazers went down to the Denver Nuggets, despite Damian Lillard's big haul.

WARRIORS ROLL ON

The Warriors won for the third time in succession on Thursday.

And Klay Thompson played a key role, scoring a game-high 25 points. Team-mate Kevin Durant added a double-double via 15 points and 14 rebounds.

SPURS ALMOST UNBEATABLE ON THE ROAD

Kawhi Leonard and Pau Gasol starred as San Antonio improved to an NBA-best 14-1 record away from home.

Leonard scored 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Gasol had 18 points.

LILLARD TORCHES NUGGETS, NOT ENOUGH

Damian Lillard put the Nuggets for 40 points and 10 assists however it was not enough to earn the win.

Despite the colossal stat line, the Trail Blazers lost 132-120 on the road. This was the third time Lillard scored 40-plus points in a game this season.

PELICANS, BUCKS POST WINS

Anthony Davis was the hero for the Pelicans, posting a double-double with 35 points and 16 rebounds in New Orleans' 102-95 victory against the Indiana Pacers.

The Bucks, meanwhile, got the better of the Chicago Bulls 108-97.

ROCKETS PUT STREAK ON THE LINE

The in-form Houston Rockets can make it nine wins on the bounce against the Pelicans on Friday. The Los Angeles Clippers go head-to-head with the Miami Heat and the Toronto Raptors face the Atlanta Hawks.
