LeBron James says he has no rivalry with Curry
LeBron James played down any suggestion he had a rivalry with Stephen Curry, despite their recent battles.
Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James denied he has a rivalry with Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry.
The Cavaliers and Warriors have split each of the last two NBA Finals, while James and Curry have each won two NBA MVP awards in the last five years.
Despite their continuous success and recent matchups, and the fact that they were born three years apart in the same Arkon hospital, James does not believe there exists a personal rivalry with the Warriors guard.
"I don't have a rivalry with Steph Curry," the Cavaliers forward told reporters following Saturday's All-Star practice session in New Orleans.
"There's no way you can say, 'Let's talk about rivalries,' and you say, '[Larry] Bird and Magic [Johnson]. Carolina, Duke. Ohio State, Michigan,' and then say 'LeBron and Steph'.
"It's disrespectful to those other three that I just named that you would even try to put us in the class with that.
"We haven't had enough battles, and who's to say we will have future battles. We'll see, but to put us in a category with [them], it's impossible. You can't do it."
Even though Warriors forward Draymond Green said last month there is a natural rivalry between the two teams, James even pushed back on that assessment.
None of that will get in the way of James having fun during this weekend's All-Star Game festivities.
"There's no competition this weekend," James said.
"This is all about the fans, the enjoyment of being an All-Star. The competition will start back once again next week when the season begins. But right now, we're not competing. There's no competition here, there's no egos, there's nothing, there's no agendas. This is All-Star weekend, New Orleans, 2017. I'm just happy to be a part of it."
