Bulls' Rondo likely out for rest of series against Celtics
Rajon Rondo appears set to miss the rest of the Chicago Bulls' NBA playoff series against the Boston Celtics.
Even if the Chicago Bulls make it to game seven against the Boston Celtics, they will likely have to play without Rajon Rondo.
Chicago coach Fred Hoiberg confirmed Rondo will not play in game six against the Celtics on Friday as he battles a hand injury.
Even if the Bulls tie the series, Rondo will probably be out for the decider.
"Nothing's changed as of now," Hoiberg told reporters.
"We had a film session in the hotel this morning. Obviously we didn't do anything on the court before we left. Rajon, most likely, will come in and work out tonight, but like we talked about [Wednesday] at the game it's still a long shot that he's back on the court, at least in this series."
Rondo sustained a broken right thumb and ligament damage in his right wrist in the Bulls' game two victory.
Since Rondo's injury, the Celtics have won three straight, something Hoiberg said was because there was not a viable point guard on the court.
"We had a real good thing going with Rajon," Hoiberg said. "Our flow was excellent. Our pace was really good, just getting the ball down the floor early and striking before the defense was set. That's something we had a lot of success with. Obviously, that part of our game has changed with Rondo out."
Jimmy Butler is also experiencing discomfort with knee soreness, but Hoiberg said the Bulls star would play Friday.
The Celtics hold a 3-2 lead in the first-round series.
