Raikkonen frustrated by 'average' 2015
After two podiums and five retirements in 2015, Kimi Raikkonen is ready to move on to the next Formula One season with Ferrari.
Kimi Raikkonen will look back on 2015 with frustration after five retirements and only two podiums for the Ferrari driver.
The final weekend of the season in Abu Dhabi gives the Finn the chance to finish fourth in the drivers' championship if he can score two points more than compatriot Valtteri Bottas, of Williams.
However, that is not enough for the former world champion, who has not been pleased with his own performance and that of his car.
"Pretty average," he said when asked to sum up 2015. "Better than last year, but still far away from what it should be, but that is life and next year we try again.
"It has not been the easiest few years but that is how it goes. We have improved a lot from last year, but we are still not happy and when I don't finish five races that is a lot out of the races we have done this year.
"I expect to be very high up and fighting so we have to improve and I am sure we can still improve it. Next year is a new challenge and I am sure we can do better."
Raikkonen expects to see more improvements from Ferrari for 2016 so that he is able to close the gap to the dominant Mercedes, and try to fight for race wins.
He added: "Next year the aim is always to be at the front and Mercedes have been very strong for the last few years and everyone else is trying to beat them.
"Is it going to happen? Are we going to be in that position next year? Yes, we hope so, but we have to wait until we put the cars on the circuit in the test and the first few races and then we will really see."
