Latvala completes Corsica win
For the third time this season Jari-Matti Latvala was top of the podium as he cruised to victory at the Tour of Corsica.
Jari-Matti Latvala completed a comfortable victory at the Tour of Corsica on Sunday to seal a third win of the 2015 World Rally Championship season.
The Volkswagen driver had won on an asphalt surface just once previously in his career, but the race was thrown wide open when Latvala's team-mate and world champion Sebastien Ogier was ruled out of contention after picking up a 10-minute penalty for failing to complete leg one on Friday.
M-Sport driver Elfyn Evans initially took advantage during a brilliant drive on a treacherous stage three on Friday that put him into an 18-second lead.
However, Latvala had edged in front by the end of the stages on Saturday despite struggling with a gearbox issue and the Finn never looked back as he won by 43.1 seconds from Evans.
Latvala had effectively secured the win by the end on the morning stages on Sunday, as his lead over Evans had stretched to 32.7secs.
Evans' focus soon switched to holding off a strong challenge from Andreas Mikkelsen (Volkswagen), who looked set to snatch second place, having gone 8.3secs ahead of the Welshman.
But Evans, who is still searching for a maiden victory, recovered strongly to achieve his best World Rally Championship result.
Kris Meeke (Citroen) and Hayden Paddon (Hyundai) were fourth and fifth respectively, while Ogier finished a disappointing weekend with some consolation by winning the powerstage for three bonus points.
