Golden Horn denies Treve at Longchamp
Treve was the favourite for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, but it was Golden Horn who triumphed under Frankie Dettori.
Frankie Dettori rode Golden Horn to a dominant victory in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe as Treve came up short in her bid for an unprecedented third successive win.
Treve's success at Longchamp 12 months ago ensured the mare became the first horse in 36 years to win back-to-back stagings of Europe's richest race.
However, it was Golden Horn who proved the class of the field at Longchamp on Sunday - the winner of this year's Derby, Eclipse and Irish Champion Stakes pulling clear and demonstrating the staying power to seal glory.
Treve had to settle for fourth, behind Flintshire and New Bay.
Dettori is the seventh jockey to win four Arcs, his previous successes having come aboard Lammtarra in 1995, Sakhee in 2001 and Marienbard in 2002.
"He [Golden Horn] is probably the best horse I've ridden," the 44-year-old told Channel 4.
"It was an amazing performance.
"I scratched my head all week. Everyone was determined to make me sit behind.
"I said why, I've got the best horse. Let me get him up front and show the world how good he is."
