Canada stay perfect, Russia beat Denmark
Titleholders Canada overcame France in Group B, while Russia won again on Thursday.
Marc-Edouard Vlasic scored a fortunate winning goal as defending champions Canada maintained their perfect record in the IIHF World Championship with a 3-2 win over France.
Claude Giroux restored parity for Canada late in the second period after France had turned around a first-period deficit to lead 2-1 on Thursday.
And San Jose Sharks defenseman Vlasic made sure of a fourth straight win in Group B in the third minute of final period, his shot cannoning off the board behind the goal and in off the stick of Jonathan Janil.
Sweden posted a much-needed win, shutting out the previously undefeated Latvia 2-0 in Cologne.
Gabriel Landeskog and Elias Lindholm were on target for the Swedes, who improved to seven points from four games in Group A.
Group leaders Russia accounted for Denmark 3-0 thanks to Bogdan Kiselevich, Sergei Plotnikov and Nikita Gusev.
Czech Republic, meanwhile, edged Norway 1-0.
