Roger Federer joked that Stan Wawrinka has gone far enough at the Australian Open ahead of their semi-final clash.

The 17-time major winner brushed aside Mischa Zverev in straight sets on Tuesday to set up an all-Swiss final-four meeting with the US Open champion.

In his on-court interview after the match, a jovial Federer suggested his compatriot should not worry about making the final too much.

"I'm happy he's got this far, but he doesn't need to go one step further. It's enough right now. Of course, Stan knows I'm joking… somewhat," quipped Federer.

He continued: "He's a clutch player now. He's really turned it around for himself, he proved that at the US Open.

"To play against Stan I always have to stay aggressive. The more time I give him the better he is, like most of the biggest hitters and he's maybe the biggest we have in the game right now.

"I'm happy I played as well as I did in this tournament. I never thought it was going to be this good. Here I am still standing in the semis with Stan. It couldn't be cooler for both of us."

Federer revealed his children's priorities when it comes to his displays in Melbourne where more focused on enjoying themselves, rather than him winning an 18th major.

"In Perth they had a blast, Melbourne they know better. They've been active, they go outside all day. They told me many times: 'Please don't lose, daddy, we want to stay here for longer'," he said.

"For the first time today [Tuesday] one of my daughters said, 'I'm happy to go skiing in Switzerland now'. I was like, 'come on, give me one more match, maybe I can hang around for a couple more days'."
