Angelique Kerber feels she is playing "high-class tennis" and is capable of challenging for the Wimbledon title having reached the semi-finals.

Kerber, the Australian Open champion, overcame fifth seed Simona Halep in straight sets in the last eight on Tuesday.

After a disappointing first-round exit at the French Open, the German believes her form is at a good enough level to push for a second grand slam triumph in her career.

"I'm feeling really good. I'm playing really good tennis right now. I think I'm playing like in Australia, like really high‑class tennis," said Kerber.

"Simona was playing really well, as well. I was trying to be aggressive and play my game, focusing just on my style of tennis.

"When I arrived in Paris [for the French Open], I was feeling much more pressure. I put a lot of pressure on myself. Everything was too much, I think.

"When I arrived here, I was telling myself [to act] just like in Australia, being relaxed, playing round by round, not making things too complicated, not putting pressure on myself.

"I know that I have the game to win the big tournament. I know that I have a lot of confidence right now. I'm feeling good on grass court. This is what counts."

Kerber went into her quarter-final meeting having only dropped her serve in three games at the competition.

However, she suffered four breaks in the opening set against Halep and acknowledged improvements are needed ahead of a semi-final clash with five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams – though the German will not go overboard.

"I know that my serve should be a little bit better against Venus. But I have tomorrow one more day of practice. I will serve a lot tomorrow, I think," added Kerber.

"I think my serve is not too bad. I know that Simona was returning really well. So I will not make too much drama on my serve.

"It's another day. It's a new match against her [Williams]. I know that I have to serve bigger."
