West Ham have moved quickly to replace Slavan Bilic by announcing that former Sunderland boss David Moyes has been appointed to take charge of the East London club.
Moyes was installed as the favorite for the West Ham Job, and the board at the Hammers wasted little time in securing the services of the Scot. In a statement to their official website joint chairman David Sullivan confirmed that the premier league experience of the coach was crucial in the appointment.
“We need somebody with experience, knowledge of the Premier League and the players in it, and we believe David is the right man to turn things around and get the best out of the players at the Club. He is highly regarded and respected within the game, and will bring fresh ideas, organisation and enthusiasm.
“He proved with Everton that he has great qualities and we feel that West Ham United is a Club that will give David the platform to display those qualities again.”
The Scottish boss will now be tasked with hauling the hammers out of the relegation zone following a poor start to the campaign under Slavan Bilic. West Ham are currently in eighteenth in the Premier League after picking up just nine points from eleven games. This will be the 54-year-old managers sixth managerial position following stints at Preston North End, Everton, Manchester United, Real Sociedad and Sunderland.
David Moyes is now set to meet his new squad for the first time on Tuesday morning, and will begin the task of preparing West Ham over the international break for their visit to Watford on Sunday the 19th of November.
