Foundation of the Federation
The Swiss Football Federation was founded in the year 1895. It became member of the European confederation ‘UEFA’ in 1954.
First international match
Switzerland played their first international match against France on February 12, 1905 in Paris which they lost by one goal to nil.
The Swiss recorded their biggest win was by 9-0 against Lithuania in Paris, on May 25, 1924.
As for their heaviest defeat, it was against Hungary by 0-9 on October 29, 1911.
Participations in the Euro
The Swiss National team will be participating in the European Cup finals for the 4th time in their history after their participations in 1996, 2004 and 2008 (when Switzerland hosted the finals jointly with Austria).
The Swiss do not enjoy a great record in the Euro. They could not manage to pass to first round in none of their 3 participations. They look forward obtaining more positive results this time in France.

The Coach
The Swiss of Bosnian origins, Vladimir Petkovic took over as coach of the Swiss National team since July 2014 in replacement of German Ottmar Hitzfeld who left just after the Brazil world cup 2014.
Petkovic has a wide experience and knowledge of Swiss football. He had coached many Swiss clubs including those of Young Boys and Sion. In addition, he had an experience of coaching a Turkish team (Samson Sport) and other spell with the Italian club of Lazio where he won the Italian Cup trophy in the season 2012-13.
Road to France
Switzerland reached the European Cup Finals 2016 in France after finishing runners-up of group 5 behind England, the winners of the group.
The Swiss totalized 21 points from 7 wins and 3 losses.
They scored 24 goals while conceding 8 in the qualifiers.
Switzerland matches schedule
The Swiss start their Euro 2016 campaign by facing Albania on June 11 in the “Bolaert Delelis” stadium in Lens. Then, they meet the Romanian team on June 15 in the “Stade de France” stadium in Paris, before ending the group phase against France on June 19 in the “Pierre Mauroy” stadium in Lille.
