Liverpool looking to stretch undefeated streak to 15 games against Swansea
Mitch Freeley
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side will be looking to build on their impressive 4-3 win over league leaders Manchester City when they head to South Wales to take on bottom of the table Swansea on Monday evening. As ever you can watch the match live and exclusively on beIN SPORTS CONNECT.
January signing Virgil van Dijk could be in line for his league debut for the club after shaking off a hamstring injury. Whilst Mohammed Salah is also set to play a part after recovering from illness. One player unlikely to feature will be club captain Jordan Henderson who is coming back from a hamstring injury.
The Redmen have been in scintillating form in the league and have not tasted defeat in their last 14 Premier League games. Whilst the loss of Phillipe Coutinho to Barcelona has done little to dampen team morale as Klopp’s side played their best football of the season in the frantic 4-3 win over City. Part of this was down to the form of both Roberto Firmino & Mohammed Salah who played decisive roles in the victory over the Citizens last week.
Salah has the chance to join an illustrious group of Liverpool players to score 20 goals in a Premier League season which includes Luis Suarez, Robbie Fowler & Fernando Torres. Having scored 18 goals so far, it isn’t out of the question that the Egyptian winger will hit the milestone on Monday night.
Firmino certainly enjoys playing Swansea having scored five goals in his previous four outings against the Welsh side, more than any over Liverpool player. Whilst the Brazilian attacker had been on fine goalscoring form for the Reds, scoring 10 times in his last 11 starts for Liverpool.
As for Swansea they can welcome back right-back Kyle Naughton & Mike van der Hoorn from suspension and injury respectively. On-loan striker Tammy Abraham faces a late fitness test on a hip injury and could be a doubt for the match.
New boss Carlos Carvalhal has gone some way in stopping the rot at the club by picking up four points from his first three games in charge to keep the Swans in touching distance of the sides above them. However with the likes of Stoke, West Brom & Southampton all picking up encouraging results this weekend, the pressure is on not to get cut adrift at the foot of the table.
Swansea have had a miserable run in their matches against the current top four in the Premier League, conceding 14 goals against them so far this season. A clean sheet would go some way in boosting the confidence of the beleaguered Swans, and the fans will be hoping that Polish stopper Lukasz Fabianski can step up and shut out one of the most dangerous attacks in the league.
