CSKA Moscow can pile the pressure on second-placed FC Basel in Group A, providing CSKA can beat bottom of the table Benfica on Wednesday evening. As for Manchester United, they are top of the group and have yet to lose a game in the group stages so far. Just one point against Basel will guarantee top spot for Jose Mourinho’s men. This will be the first time that United have qualified for the round of 16 following the 2013-14 season where they lost to Bayern Munich in the Quarter-finals.
Celtic & Anderlecht battle it out for the Europa League place
Both Paris Saint- Germain and Bayern Munich have booked their place in the last sixteen, and both European giants will be looking for victories ahead of their group decider in Munich in Matchday six. PSG take on a Celtic side who they comprehensively defeated in matchday one 5-0. Celtic are in the hunt for a Europa League place and will seal third place if they are to do the unthinkable and get a result at the Parc des Princes. The Parisians are undefeated in their last 11 home games in European competition.
Anderlecht still has a chance of a third-place finish and will be hoping to spring a surprise against a Bayern Munich side who have won only two of their last five matches in Europe. One doubt for Bayern is French Midfielder Kingsley Coman.
Chelsea & Rome can confirm last sixteen places
Chelsea can book their place in the round of sixteen if they are able to win away in Azerbaijan against Qarabağ. The match promises to be a tough test for Chelsea, considering Qarabağ held Athletico Madrid to a 0-0 draw in their last home match.
As for current group leaders Roma, they can book their place in the knock out round with a victory away from home against Athletico Madrid. The Italian sides have been one of the surprise packages in the group stage this season, however, the Giallorossi could be without summer signing Patrik Schick who is a doubt for his team. As for Athletico, they are in desperate need of a win if the two-time finalists are to make it out of the group stage for the fifth consecutive season.
Barcelona can qualify with win at Juventus
Over in Group D and two European giants in Juventus and Barcelona face-off at Juventus stadium. Barcelona can progress to the knockout phase as group winners with a draw, whilst Juve can progress providing they can avoid defeat and Sporting do not win. Juve will be hurting following their 3-0 league defeat to Sampdoria, they should welcome captain Gigi Buffon back in goal.
Just a point for Sporting against Olympiacos will guarantee at least a third place finish for the Portuguese side. Whilst for the Greeks, only a win will do if they are to do the impossible and qualify. The first match between the two sides in the group saw Sporting register a 3-2 away win in Piraeus.
