Sainz 'fine' after Sochi FP3 crash
Despite a heavy practice crash that saw him airlifted to hospital, Carlos Sainz is still hopeful of racing in the Russian Grand Prix.
Carlos Sainz says there is "nothing to worry about" following his crash in third practice for the Russian Grand Prix and is still hopeful of competing in Sunday's race.
Toro Rosso driver Sainz was airlifted to hospital after the incident on Saturday, which brought FP3 to a premature end.
The Spaniard collided with the barriers after losing control of his car going into turn 13 at the circuit in Sochi.
Sainz made a thumbs-up gesture from a stretcher in the wake of the incident and has since posted on his Twitter account: "All ok! Nothing to worry about! Already thinking about how to convince the doctors to let me race tomorrow!"
The 21-year-old's manager Borja Ortiz-Echague also wrote on the social networking site, tweeting: "@carlosainz is fine. They are doing the tests and he's ok. Nothing hurts! Thanks for the messages".
The incident meant Sainz was unable to take part in qualifying later in the day.
