Vuelta glory confirmed for Quintana
Having held off a late charge from Chris Froome in the preceding two stages, Nairo Quintana was able to cruise to Vuelta glory on Sunday.
Nairo Quintana's second Grand Tour victory was confirmed on Sunday as the Colombian completed the final stage of the Vuelta a Espana.
Quintana had effectively secured his triumph 24 hours later when holding off Tour de France champion Chris Froome on the penultimate stage to maintain his grip on the red jersey.
All that remained was for the Movistar rider to safely negotiate the largely ceremonial 21st stage from Las Rozas to Madrid.
And Quintana did just that, coming home safely in the peloton to finish one minute and 23 seconds ahead of Froome as another Colombian, Esteban Chaves, claimed third place.
Quintana also won the Giro d'Italia in 2014 and is a three-time podium finisher in the Tour de France.
The final stage was won in a sprint finish by Magnus Cort, the Danish ORICA-BikeExchange rider claiming his second win of the week in his maiden Grand Tour.
A four-man breakaway comprising Peter Kennaugh (Team Sky), Quentin Jauregui (AG2R La Mondiale), Loic Chetout (Cofidis) and Koen Bouwman (Lotto NL- Jumbo) had initially pushed for victory.
Yet after that quartet was reeled in by the peloton, Cort again showed his prowess in a bunch sprint.
Fabio Felline of Trek - Segafredo claimed the points jersey ahead of Quintana.
