'Crisis Man' Chase revels in another rescue act for West Indies
After West Indies were dragged through day one of the second Pakistan Test by Roston Chase, the all-rounder revealed his fitting nickname.
Roston Chase joked that his superhero alter-ego was "Crisis Man" after the all-rounder dug West Indies out of a jam in the second Test against Pakistan on day one.
After winning the toss and electing to bat in Barbados, the hosts were 37-3 and looking down the barrel when Chase joined Kieran Powell at the crease.
However, the 25-year-old put in an inspired performance, reaching stumps unbeaten on 131 - his second Test century in just his ninth appearance - and sharing a 132-run partnership with captain Jason Holder to help the Windies to 286-6 at the close of play.
Chase introduced himself to the Test arena with a match-saving 137 not out against India in Jamaica last year and once again revelled in the rescue act.
"There's a little joke in the dressing room, among the Barbados guys, that if it was a superhero movie, my superhero name would be 'Crisis Man'," Chase said with a laugh after the day's play.
"I relish these situations where we are on the back foot, under pressure. I just like to dig my team out of a hole all the time."
Chase's knock was especially sweet as his family were in attendance at the Kensington Oval.
"My parents always pushed me in the direction of cricket, because that was my first love," he said.
"They always backed me 100 per cent, gave me that encouragement to just go out there and play my cricket and do the best that I can.
"Also my brother is a big mentor for me, so I felt good about doing it in front of him today."
