Bundesliga - Dortmund 4 RB Leipzig 1-Match Report!
Captain Reus at the double as Dortmund register 4-1 opening day win over Leipzig
Mitch Freeley
Borussia Dortmund came from a goal down to seal a 4-1 victory over RB Leipzig on Saturday to open their Bundesliga season with a win. New Dortmund captain Marco Reus grabbed a brace as Lucien Favre started life in the dugout with three points.
It wasn’t an ideal start for Dortmund, as Leipzig striker Jean-Kévin Augustin pounced on a defensive error to give the visitors a shock lead just after a minute into the tie.
Unperturbed, Dortmund pushed ahead and deservedly levelled up with 20 minutes on the clock. Reus knocked in a dangerous free-kick and 22-year old midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud acrobatically headed in the equalizer. Some way to score your first goal for the club.
Dortmund continued their dominance and took the lead through curling Reus free-kick, which evaded Péter Gulácsi and nestled into the corner on the 39th minute. Whilst summer signing Axel Witsel wrapped up the contest three minutes before half-time with an acrobatic overhead kick.
A deep corner from Reus was met perfectly by Thomas Delany, and the Danish midfielder’s powerful header was pushed out by Gulácsi. The ball came to Witsel high by the near post, and the Belgian international showed plenty of skill to smash in the volley.
Leipzig tried to get back into the contest, but Dortmund wrapped up the points in stoppage time as substitute Jordan Sancho assisted Reus who drilled his shot to make it 4-1 to Favre’s side.

Borussia Dortmund will have a new boss in the dugout this season as Swiss coach Lucian Favre. His first piece of business will be to make BVB competitive in the league again, after just finishing fourth and qualifying for the Champions League last season.
Key Man
Axel Witsel was the big summer signing from China, and the midfielder would be looking to impress on his return to Europe. The Belgian international had a key role for his country at the 2018 World Cup and should be fit enough to earn a starting place in midfield.
Witsel has already cemented himself as a fan favourite with his new club after coming off the bench and scoring a stoppage-time equalizer against second division Greuther Furth in the German Cup. Dortmund went on to win the match 2-1.

RB Leipzig lost their way in the second half of the season, eventually finishing sixth in the Bundesliga. After an encouraging run in the Champions League last year, changes have been made with the coaching staff with Ralf Rangnick in charge for the season before young coach Julian Nagelsmann joins the side next season.
Understandably this could be a transition side for the side, but Rangnick who managed the team in their maiden season in the Bundesliga will be demanding. An away victory against Dortmund would go some way in boosting the confidence of the side.
Key Man
Matheus Cunha was the big summer accusation from Sion in Switzerland. The 19-year-old striker has been purchased for the future and has the potential to be a key player in the side. Cunha scored ten goals and had ten assists last season in the Swiss super league, and already has scored twice in Europa League qualifying.
