Chandler limps off as Eintracht Frankfurt beats Nurnberg to secure Bundesliga status
Eintracht Frankfurt avoided the drop to the 2.Bundesliga following a hard-fought 2-1 win on aggregate over Nurnberg.
U.S. international Timothy Chandler limped off in the 71st minute as Eintracht Frankfurt secured another season of Bundesliga football on Monday.
Haris Seferovic scored the only goal of the game to help Eintracht Frankfurt to a 1-0 win over Nurnberg at the Grundig Stadium on Monday in the promotion/relegation playoff.
Frankfurt knew it had to attack after last week's 1-1 draw at home and did just enough to see off Nurnberg in the return.
The U.S. will now be forced to wait on Chandler's status, however. The right back was named to the team's 23-man final roster for the Copa America Centenario on Saturday, but could be forced to miss the tournament with what appears to be a muscle injury.
Seferovic found the net in the 66th minute with an easy finish after some great work from Mijat Gacinovic down the left to give the away side a 2-1 lead on aggregate, meaning Nurnberg could no longer sit back and was forced to come out of its shell.
The 2.Bundesliga side was unable to create any chances of note, though, and will have to settle for a place in Germany's second tier once more in 2016-17.
Freiburg and RB Leipzig had already clinched promotion to the Bundesliga, with Hannover and Stuttgart dropping to the 2.Bundesliga.
