Wilder feels Klitschko's experience will be key in Joshua bout
Head over heart. Deontay Wilder believes Wladimir Klitschko has the edge over Anthony Joshua.
Anthony Joshua's lack of big-fight experience may prove costly when he defends the IBF heavyweight title against Wladimir Klitschko, says Deontay Wilder.
Explosive Briton Joshua has yet to be beaten in 18 professional fights, with each of his bouts ending in a knockout victory.
But in Klitschko he faces a man desperate to regain his status as the king of the heavyweight division having been shocked by Tyson Fury in November 2015.
Wilder would like to see Joshua win in order to face him further down the line.
But the WBC heavyweight champion says Klitschko, who held the IBF belt for almost 10 years during his dominance of the division, has to be considered favourite for the April 29 Wembley showdown.
"At this point and time in his career, we don't think [anything] could concern him [Klitschko] as far as crowds, places and opponents - he's been there and done that," Wilder told talkSPORT.
"He's very smart and we know styles make fights. And I think Klitschko and Joshua makes a great fight. Their style is similar.
"Klitschko has a hell of a lot of experience versus Joshua who doesn't have that much experience.
"Even with the guys that [promoter Eddie] Hearn placed in front of him - I don't think he's prepared him for a Klitschko though.
"But Joshua is young and he's got a good punch too. The styles make the fight. People always ask: 'who are you going for?'
"My heart is for him because I want to see a future fight with him, whether it's in America or in the UK.
"But we'll see. He's got to stay focused and concentrate on this task because it's going to be a big task. Klitschko has been training his arse off and he's said this is his time to come back.
"Every time I hear him and see him, he's so confident in what he's going to do because I think he's seeing the level of competition that has been put in front of Joshua – and he's thinking, 'there's no one compared to me'."
