Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez is determined to knock out Gennady Golovkin and exact revenge for the Kazakh's comments regarding his rival's recent doping ban.

That is according to Canelo's promoter Oscar de la Hoya, who, like the rest of the boxing world, is gearing up for Saturday's highly anticipated rematch between the middleweight duo.

The initial bout in September 2017 ended in a controversial draw, before a second fight had to be postponed when Canelo tested positive for clenbuterol, a finding he put down to contaminated meat eaten in his homeland.

The Mexican was subsequently suspended for six months by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, although Golovkin cast doubts on Canelo's claims that meat was to blame, describing that as "nonsense" and alleging he could see "injection marks" all over his opponent's body.

And those remarks have seemingly irked Canelo ahead of this weekend's resumption of hostilities in Las Vegas.

"I think he's focused, I think he's determined, but he's thinking revenge," De la Hoya told Omnisport.

"He's thinking about knocking out Golovkin because of all the controversy because of what Golovkin has been talking about Canelo failing a drugs test because of the clenbuterol.

"I strongly feel that Canelo, when that bell rings, is going to go out there and take of business. He is one angry individual right now, he wants to make GGG pay.

"All those negative comments have just motivated Canelo that much more. In camp he was training like there's no tomorrow, Canelo has been running more miles, boxing more rounds, training like he never trained before.

"I strongly feel this fight will be one of those defining moments Canelo needs in his career.

"He has to go out there and prove his point. I've never heard Canelo talk about knocking someone out, for the first time ever in his career he's saying he wants to knock out Golovkin and I believe him.

"Golovkin is one strong individual. He can give the punch, he can take the punch, but let me tell you one thing, no one is invincible.

"I strongly feel that Golovkin has his flaws and obviously it's up to Canelo to figure them out. I strongly feel Canelo has done his homework, has studied Golovkin up and down.

"He knows his flaws, he knows his weaknesses, he knows his strengths, keep your enemy closer, I strongly feel that Canelo within those 12 rounds can maybe figure out Golovkin and stop him."
