Semenya, Taylor triumph as Diamond League gets under way
Christian Taylor and Caster Semenya were among the winners at the opening meet of the Diamond League season in Doha.
Caster Semenya claimed her first Diamond League victory since 2011 as she won the women's 800 metres at the first meeting of the season in Doha.
Semenya, who won South African national titles in the 400m, 800m and 1500m in emphatic fashion last month, posted a time of one minute and 58.26 seconds - the fastest in the world this year.
Habitam Alemu and Eunice Jepkoech Sum took second and third respectively behind Semenya, who - after the gender-testing scandal that dogged her early career - now has her sights firmly set on Olympic glory.
Olympic triple jump champion Christian Taylor was arguably the biggest name on show in Qatar and lived up to his billing by leaping 17.32m to come out on top, finishing ahead of Dong Bin and Alexis Copello.
And there was success across the board for American athletes, with LaShawn Merritt (400m), Tori Bowie (100m) and Ameer Webb (200m) leading the way on the track.
Bowie knocked European champion Dafne Schippers and former world champion Vernonica Cambell-Brown into second and third respectively to seal her win.
In the field, there was success for Sandi Morris in the pole vault and Tia Brooks in the shot put.
Ehtiopia's Almaz Ayana put on an impressive display to prevail in the women's 3,000m, while Kenyan duo Asbel Kiprop and Conseslus Kipruto triumphed in the 1500m and steeplechase respectively.
Jamaica's Omar McLeod and Great Britain's Eilidh Doyle both set world lead times in the hurdles, the former over 110m and the latter over 400m, and Caterine Ibarguen produced the longest jump of the year - 15.04m - to take the women's triple jump.
Meanwhile, there were wins for Sunette Viljoen in the javelin and Piotr Malachowski in the discus.
