Usain Bolt made a winning return from injury and Kendra Harrison broke a long-standing 100 metres hurdles world record at Friday's Diamond League meeting in London 

Bolt insisted that he was fully fit on the eve of the Anniversary Games at the Olympic Stadium after recovering from a hamstring strain that prompted fears over his participation in the Rio Olympics next month.

The six-time Olympic champion was by no means at full tilt, but clocked 19.89 seconds to win the 200m at the stadium where he won three gold medals in the London Games four years ago.

Bolt was made to wait when Sean McLean was disqualified for a false start and there was a further delay as a result of interference from the public announcement system.

But the legendary Jamaican got the job done once again in his last race before his final Olympics in Rio, surging up the home straight to claim victory ahead of Alonso Edward and Adam Gemili.

Bolt told BBC Sport: "I'm getting there, I'm not fully in shape, but over time I'll be fine. The key thing is I came out injury-free, so I'm happy about that."

Harrison missed out on a place in the United States team for the Rio Games and set her sights on breaking the world record after that heartbreak.

The 23-year-old raised the roof by producing an immaculate run to clock 12.20secs, breaking a record which had stood for 28 years.

"After not making the Olympic team I wanted to come out here and show what I could have done," Harrison, who looked stunned after discovering her time, told BBC Sport.

"I came out here with a lot of vengeance. I knew I had it in me."

Jimmy Vicaut won the men's 100m final in 10.02secs, while Laura Muir broke the British record with a time of 3:57.49 to cross the line first in the women's 1500m and Shaunae Miller claimed victory in the 400m.

Christian Taylor sent a message to his rivals ahead of the Rio Games by leaping 17.78m to win the triple jump.
