Barshim hits new heights in Oslo, Schippers a birthday winner following appeal
There were wins for the likes of Mutaz Essa Barshim and Caster Semenya in Oslo, as Dafne Schippers overturned a birthday disqualification.
Mutaz Essa Barshim broke a men's high jump meeting record that had stood since 1989 in Thursday's Diamond League event in Oslo, while Dafne Schippers was ultimately able to celebrate a victory on her 25th birthday.
Barshim's career-best leap of 2.43 metres puts him second on the all-time list behind the iconic Javier Sotomayor (2.45m).
In Oslo, the Qatari cleared 2.38m on his way to an emphatic victory, capturing a meeting record that had been held by Sotomayor for 28 years.
Schippers ran under protest in the 200m after initially being found guilty of a false start.
The reigning world champion went on to win comfortably from Murielle Ahoure in a time of 22.31secs and her appeal was accepted later in the evening, meaning she was belatedly declared the winner of the race.
There was home success for Karsten Warholm, who ran a national record of 48.25secs in the women's 400m hurdles, while Norwegian teenager Jakob Ingebrigtsen won the Dream Mile in a superb time of three minutes and 56.29secs, lowering his age-16 world best.
The night's other winners included Caster Semenya in the women's 800m and Andre De Grasse, the winner of the men's 100m by 0.01 seconds from Chijindu Ujah in a time of 10.01.
