Amid QB drama, Broncos trade for Sanchez
The Denver Broncos have traded for Mark Sanchez, but could yet add another quarterback into the mix.
Super Bowl champions the Denver Broncos have completed a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles for quarterback Mark Sanchez.
Following Peyton Manning's retirement and Brock Osweiler's decision to sign with the Houston Texans, the Broncos have been left searching for a new face to lead their offense.
Reports have indicated the Broncos are in negotiations with the San Francisco 49ers over Colin Kaepernick, who is also said to be a target for the Cleveland Browns and New York Jets.
And, while they have now brought in a quarterback with starting experience in the NFL in Sanchez, Broncos executive vice president of football operations and general manager John Elway suggested the former New York Jet would not come in as the starter.
Elway wrote on Twitter that Sanchez will "compete" for his spot, but it remains to be seen whether he will vie with Kaepernick for the starting job.
Sanchez led the Jets to consecutive AFC championship appearances in his first two seasons but has since struggled, with injuries forcing him into a starting role with the Eagles for eight games in 2014.
In his career Sanchez has racked up 15,126 passing yards with 86 touchdowns and 84 interceptions.
