With the World Cup now heading to the final four, we assess the chances of the sides left in the tournament to see who can go all the way and lift the famous trophy in Moscow on Sunday the 15th of July. First up, we assess the chances of France who have played some attacking football with knockout stage wins against South American opponents.
Les Bleus can certainly dream of lifting a second World Cup, after making light work of Argentina & Uruguay in the knockout phases on route to booking their place in the Semi-finals. France are currently favourites to lift the World Cup
Didier Deschamps youthful side has impressed, particularly with the partnership of Raphael Varane & Samuel Umtiti at centre back. Defensively sound (France only conceded once in the group stage) and exciting moving forward, it seems that Deschamps has got the blend right in his team selections.
This was certainly underlined in the quarter-final victory over Uruguay with Raphael Varane scoring the opener with a glancing header. Before the Real Madrid defender masterfully shut out the South Americans with a fine defensive performance.
Key Man
Kylian Mbappé announced himself on the world stage with two well-taken goals in the 4-3 round of sixteen victory over Argentina. The PSG youngsters strike showed real quality and composure which contravene his age, it’s scary to think that he is just 19 years old. Mbappé has scored three times in five games for Les Bleus in Russia, and his blistering pace will be a key asset for France if they are to progress in their semi-final.
Who will France play in the Semi-final?
France will take on fellow European side Belgium on Tuesday the 7th of July for a place in the final of the World Cup. The match will take place at the Saint Petersburg Stadium. You will be able to watch all the action via beIN SPORTS CONNECT.
