Gavrilova cruises through in straight sets
Australian tennis star Daria Gavrilova advanced to the semi-finals of the WTA event in Acapulco, Mexico, with a straight sets win over local hope Renata Zarazua.
Gavrilova put behind her a tumultuous opening match of the tournament, where a racquet she threw narrowly missed a ball boy, prompting this tweet from compatriot Nick Kyrgios.
The incident happed during Gavrilova's 4-6 6-3 6-3 win over American world-number 76 Madison Brengle.
It was much smoother sailing for third seed Australian on Thursday (AEDT), the 23 year-old making relatively light work of Mexico's Renata Zarazua with a 7-5, 6-3 win.
