Russian pair enjoys Wimbledon final whitewash
There was no repeat of the men's doubles final epic as Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina won the ladies' crown without dropping a game.
Russia's Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina clinched the women's doubles title at Wimbledon in ruthless fashion, hammering Chan Hao-ching and Monica Niculescu 6-0 6-0.
The match did not start until around 9:30pm local time, and with the roof on Centre Court, after a four-hour, 40-minute epic men's doubles final eventually won by Marcelo Melo and Lukasz Kubot.
Those that hung around to watch the women were not delayed long as the No.2 seeded pair thrashed its Chinese Taipei/Romanian opponents inside an hour to record a third grand slam crown.
The whitewash was the first in the women's doubles final in 64 years.
