Nastase under investigation
There was high drama in the Fed Cup tie between Romania and Great Britain, with Ilie Nastase sent off and Johanna Konta leaving in tears.
Ilie Nastase is under investigation after he was ejected from Romania's Fed Cup play-off against Great Britain a day after the International Tennis Federation (ITF) vowed to look into alleged racially-insensitive comments he made about Serena Williams's pregnancy.
Romania captain Nastase was removed from the stadium in Constanta and Johanna Konta left the court in tears amid a suspension in play, but returned to win the second rubber.
The ITF had already stated it would launch an investigation after Nastase was accused of speculating what the colour of Williams's unborn baby will be just days after the legendary American revealed she is expecting her first child.
A day later Romania received a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct from umpire Jaume Campistol in game three of the second set with Konta appearing to complain about something that had been said in the crowd.
Nastase was sent from the sideline and away from the stands after being given a second official warning for his comments after Sorana Cirstea took a 2-1 lead.
He was then escorted from the arena and aimed a tirade at members of the media on his way out.
An emotional Konta dropped her serve in the next game and again spoke to the umpire before returning to the baseline in tears, with play consequently suspended.
Simona Halep appeared to urge the fired-up crowd to remain calm before the Brit left the court alongside Great Britain captain Anne Keothavong.
Halep then made another announcement to urge the members of the crowd to "respect both players and speak nice" and Konta was cheered when she returned to the court.
After a brief warm-up, Konta won the next five games in succession to complete a 6-2 6-3 victory and level the tie at 1-1.
