Coric, Kohlschreiber to contest Marrakech final
The final of the Grand Prix Hassan II will provide a battle of youth versus experience, with Borna Coric facing Philipp Kohlschreiber.
Borna Coric and Philipp Kohlschreiber booked their places in the Grand Prix Hassan II final on Sunday (AEST), with the former now hoping it will be a case of third time lucky as he seeks a maiden ATP World Tour title.
For the second year running in this clay-court tournament in Marrakech, Coric beat Jiri Vesely at the last-four stage, the Croatian winning 6-4 6-4 on this occasion after ruthlessly converting his first break-point opportunities in each set.
Coric lost the 2016 Grand Prix Hassan II final to Federico Delbonis, having also been denied a tournament win in Chennai three months earlier by Stan Wawrinka.
The 20-year-old's third career final will see him do battle with a vastly experienced opponent, after No.3 seed Kohlschreiber charged to a dominant 6-2 6-2 victory over Benoit Paire.
Kohlschreiber, whose last four ATP titles have come on clay, dropped just one point on serve during a one-sided opening set in which Paire made his frustration clear.
There was to be no comeback from the Frenchman thereafter as Kohlschreiber took just more than an hour to reach his 16th tour final.
