Valdez fires Seattle into conference semi-finals
Nelson Valdez’s dramatic late header was enough to send Seattle Sounders through to the Conference semi-finals after clinching a 1-0 win over Sporting Kansas City on Friday (AEDT).
Sporting Kansas City had the upper hand in the opening stages of a tense encounter and the match appeared destined for a draw, until substitute Nelson Valdez, pounced in the 88th minute with a header which sent the crowd at CenturyLink Field into raptures.
Valdez met Joevin Jones' cross, albeit contentiously as replays suggest a tight offside call, to net the winner - with the Paraguayan having gone 26 MLS matches without a goal.
The win sees Seattle through to the Western Conference semi final where it will take on Supporters' Shield champion FC Dallas on Monday (AEDT).
