D.C. United preserves perfect record
There were victories for all three home teams as D.C. United, Deportivo Saprissa and Municipal triumphed in the CONCACAF Champions League.
D.C. United claimed a 3-0 win over Montego Bay United in the CONCACAF Champions League to stay perfect in Group H.
Miguel Aguilar, Kofi Opare and Conor Doyle were on target at RFK Stadium as United made it two victories from as many matches in CONCACAF's showpiece club competition.
United hit the crossbar twice before it opened the scoring in the 37th minute via Aguilar, who tucked the ball through the legs of Montego Bay goalkeeper Jacomeno Barrett.
Ben Olsen's side doubled its lead with 19 minutes remaining when Opare used his outstretched right boot to put the host in control. Substitute Doyle completed the scoring in the dying stages after placing the ball beyond Barrett.
United tops the group standings with six points, three clear of Arabe Unido. Winless Jamaican side Montego Bay is rooted to the bottom and poised for elimination after two games.
Deportivo Saprissa, meanwhile, came from behind as it defeated Mexico's Santos Laguna 2-1 for back-to-back Group A wins.
Saprissa trailed Javier Orozco's 20th-minute opener until Marvin Angulo leveled proceedings 10 minutes into the second half after cheekily placing his free kick under the wall. The Costa Rican team completed its comeback 12 minutes from time when Nestor Araujo put the ball into his own net.
Saprissa is three points ahead of Santos Laguna in the table.
Elsewhere, Municipal registered its first win in Group G thanks to a late 2-1 victory at home against Santa Tecla. Carlos Ruiz was the hero for the Guatemalan side after converting an 86th-minute penalty.
Municipal tops the table with four points, one more than Real Salt Lake, which has played two fewer games.
El Salvadorian side Santa Tecla has one point from two fixtures.
