Luongo scores in battle of the Socceroos as QPR cruises
Australia international team-mates Massimo Luongo and James Meredith faced off for QPR and Millwall respectively in the Championship and it was the midfielder who came away with bragging rights.
Australia midfielder Massimo Luongo scored the first of his side's two goals as QPR defeated fellow Socceroos star James Meredith's Millwall 2-0 to move to 16th in the congested lower half of the EFL Championship table.
In front of more than 12,000 boisterous fans, a tense match at Loftus Road burst to life at the half-hour mark when Luongo leapt highest to get his head on the end of a loose ball and into Ben Amos's net to give Steve McClaren's side the lead.
On the very next play QPR doubled its advantage, Eberechi Eze finishing a flowing team move to deliver a one-two punch in the shadows of halftime.
Resolute defending from QPR preserved the advantage, earning the home side three valuable points and bragging rights for Luongo.
